Here's a summary of the proper steps to take for starting up and maintaining
your spa or hot tub.
NOTE:
When a spa is filled for the very first time, it is recommended that a
superchlorination dose of Chlorinated Concentrate be added with the spa
circulation and aeration turned on. Allow the system to operated for a
couple of hours, then drain spa and rinse interior surfaces. Refill the
spa with fresh water and follow the steps below.
Always read
and follow label directions on each package. Apply properly measured dosages
following the application directions on the label.
START
UP - PREFERRED METHOD
As spa
is filling with water, add SpaGuard® Stain and Scale Control to
prevent stains from metals in the water.
Once
spa is filled, start equipment following manufacturer's directions.
Apply SpaGuard® Polysheen and allow the water to circulate for
about 5 minutes.
Use
SpaGuard® Perfect Balance following the recommendations on your
computerised water analysis from your SpaGuard Specialist. These recommendations
are personalised for your water and spa.
Allow
the water to circulate for approximately 30 minutes, then add SpaGuard®
Chlorinated Concentrate to initially oxidise the water (50g/1000 litres).
Use
Brominating Tablets as detailed in start-up directions on the label.
Once
you have established a bromine residual of 4 to 6 ppm, apply SpaGuard®
Natural Chemistry Spa Perfect.
ALTERNATE METHOD
Follow
instructions of Step 1 of Preferred Method above.
Follow
instructions of Step 2 of Preferred Method above.
Balance
the water following the recommendations on your computerised water
analysis from your SpaGuard Specialist. These recommendations are
personalised for your spa and water. Be sure to wait the indicated
time between the addition of balancing products.
Apply
Chlorinated Concentrate as detailed in start-up directions on the
label of the product. If you have chosen Brominating Tablets for your
sanitiser, use Chlorinated Concentrate to establish a sanitiser residual.
Once
you have established the proper sanitiser residual, apply SpaGuard®
Natural Chemistry Spa Perfect.
Whether
you choose the preferred method or the alternate method, testing is
very important. Use 4-way Test Strips.
PERFECT
BALANCE - PREFERRED METHOD
Test
the bromine residual every day or every other day. Apply Brominating
Tablets per label directions to maintain a bromine residual of 4 to
6 ppm.
Test
the pH of the water once a week. If pH drops below 7.2 or rises above
7.6, take a sample of your water to your SpaGuard Specialist for testing
and recommendations. The ideal range is 7.4 - 7.6.
Apply
Natural Chemistry Spa Perfect and SpaGuard® Stain and Scale Control
each week as indicated by label directions.
Shock
your spa with SpaGuard® Chlorinated Concentrate at least once
a week. Additional applications are recommended after heavy spa usage
or the appearance of cloudy water.
Apply
SpaGuard® Perfect Balance weekly to replenish and maintain pH
buffering.
Spas
should be drained and refilled every 6 to 8 weeks depending on usage.
ALTERNATE METHODS - MINERAL ADJUSTMENT
Test
the chlorine or bromine residual every day or every other day. Apply
SpaGuard® Chlorinated Concentrate if needed to maintain the chlorine
residual between 1 to 3 ppm or increase/decrease the rate of SpaGuard®
Brominating Tablets to maintain a bromine residual of 4 to 6 ppm.
Test
the total alkalinity of the water once a week. If the total alkalinity
is below 125 ppm, use SpaGuard® Balance Pak 100 to raise the alkalinity
to the proper range of 125 to 150 ppm. If the total alkalinity is
above 150 ppm, use SpaGuard® Lo 'N' Slo to lower the total alkalinity
to the proper range.
Test
the pH of the water once a week. If the pH drops below 7.2, use SpaGuard®
Balance Pak 200 to raise the pH to the proper range of 7.2 to 7.6.
If the pH rises above 7.6, use SpaGuard® Lo N' Slo to lower the
pH to the proper range.
Apply
Natural Chemistry Spa Perfect and SpaGuard® Stain and Scale Control
each week as indicated on the labels.
Once
a week - or more often if bather load is high - superoxidise your
spa. You may use SpaGuard® Chlorinated Concentrate. Read the label
carefully and follow directions.
Each
month test the calcium hardness level of your spa. If the calcium
hardness is below 100 ppm, add SpaGuard® Balance Pak 300. If it
exceeds 200 ppm, apply SpaGuard® Stain and Scale Control as indicated
in the label directions.
Spas
should be drained and refilled approximately every 6 to 8 weeks, depending
on usage. Consult with your SpaGuard Professional.
Tips
For ultimate bather
comfort and soft silky water, use Optimiser Plus as a regular maintenance
product.
When draining and
refilling:
Clean
spa surfaces with BioGuard® Off The Wall to remove greases and
oils.
Use
Swirl Away to remove all build-up of grime, greases and oils from
pipes.
Remove
all greases and oils from the filter with Spa Filter Brite.
If there is any foaming
on the spa, AntiFoam Concentrate will dissipate any foam almost immediately.
